Angel Island's Painful Legacy
On February 5, 1935, 14 year old, Show Nam Lee was brought to the United States on a 14 day journey from China to Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay. He and his mother were detained for 18 months in a legal battle to prove they were in fact related to his father Lum Liu, who ran a poultry business and delicatessen in Oakland's China town.
